Boxy friend
canvas, underwater painting

60×40

This painting was completed in four dives at a depth of five meters. It is full of marine life variety. Here are the beautiful butterflyfish, striped damselfish, and many others. But one fish did his best. This was an oddly shaped, yellow-spotted creature which you can see in the foreground. It is called a boxfish. It’s a cub. They are yellow when they are babies. Adults change colors.

This baby boxfish did everything it could to attract attention. It was swimming between me and the canvas and curiously checking my palette. It came into my hands with full trust and was constantly with me while I was busy painting not only this one but several other paintings. Eventually, we became friends. I dedicate this painting to my friend Boxy and sincere friendship in its global sense.

P.S. Underwater artist Olga Belka thanks the Anantara group and especially the Anantara Dhugu resort in the Maldives for hospitality, full assistance, and support, as well as the Aquafanatics dive center for safety and the best diving conditions when creating this underwater artwork.
